International day reflection- the day in the world’s shoes.
November 6th, 2008Yesterday, we experienced extreme poverty during the whole day.
Mr. David (?) from the charity group “Crossroad” came to our school to educated us what poverty is and how it feels to be in one. We did an activity to experience the life of poverty which was, making paper bags and selling them. We also listened to the student’s and Mr.David’s presentation and ate a lunch that simulates what the people in need eat. i was surprised that 30-40% of the population of the world were people in need.
Making paper bags and selling them, it was an awesome task, letting us know clearly how people in poverty feel and it was just… incredible. When I was young, I thought people were poor because they were lazy and didn’t work, but now I finally can admit that I was being stereotypical. Even though you work hard enough, if you are in poverty, without any others help, it is hard to break the cycle of it. Even though they work harder and eat less than us, it is hard to break the cycle of it because, it has been passed on from generations to generations. We should help them because, I’m pretty sure, they deserve a better life.
So my final thought of this reflection is, we should be more aware of poverty, and help the people in poverty to give them a chance for a better life.
THEY DESERVE BETTER LIVES
GIVE THEM A CHANCE
TO BREAK THE CYCLE OF POVERTY
WE, ALL OF US, CAN DO IT
